Exact Sciences breaks ground on lab, office expansions in Madison

Exact Sciences Corp. broke ground last week on construction of new laboratory facilities on the Madison campus of the former Spectrum Brands Holdings as part of an expansion effort that would allow for the addition of 1,000 employees.

The Madison-based biotechnology firm, which produces and markets the Cologuard noninvasive stool DNA-based colon cancer screening test, is also planning a renovation of an office building in that campus where it now houses 350 employees in its customer care, IT and administrative teams. That renovation could increase the capacity at the facility at 1 Exact Lane, formerly 601 Rayovac Drive, to about 1,000 employees.

“Doctors and patients are increasingly choosing the convenience of Cologuard over other colon cancer screening methods,” Kevin Conroy, chairman and CEO of Exact Sciences (Nasdaq: EXAS) said in a press release. “Expanding in our hometown allows us to maintain Exact Sciences’ unique, customer-focused culture that’s made Cologuard a tremendous success.”
